Guilty on all counts.
Some in the medical field will not like my post. More in my home state will despise it. I understand; and yet I post still because ‘like’ does not always dictate what is good for me, what is good for you, and what is good for us. There are many vegetables I do not like, but they are still are good for me. So I eat them. I drink them. I even take them in pill form. Today, America had a healthy helping of vegetables.
An historic taste of justice typically denied to people of color when the violator wears a police uniform. In a time of pandemics stress, global instability, and shifting markets more and more disparities are coming to light. And though I ACHE for the many lives taken without accountability, I have to see the silver lining of George Floyd’s murder. The cloud of: children watching someone REAL TIME be murdered in callous cold bloodedness with no concern of accountability, the anguish of a store clerk rushing to judgement because a store owner placed an undue responsibility on him that caused the clerk to move in fear of losing his own money combined with two Americas watching in horror as a grown man gasped for his mother AFTER pleaded for air from those sworn to protect and serve. The silver lining: his last gasp blew away the plausible deniability ONE of those Americas had held to for generations. A deniability that hid behind justification comments like ‘if only he/she would have complied, etc. As both America’s watched in horror, the knee on the neck, the hand in the pocket, the gloating stare that dared the crowd to intervene, the harsh reality of in the inhumane treatment of one America by those in positions of honor and authority broke through in a way that COULD NOT BE UNSEEN.
Systemically racism, sexism, ageism, singlism, and even elitism are things I, as the composite I am, have to navigate #everysingleday.
Hopefully, this will stimulate more systemic change in the legal system. And more hopefully, that change will bring more unity and fair opportunity in the other systems: education, governmental, healthcare and more. As for me, I will #keepchoppingwood. #Unapologetically. I hope you will join me.
